When you contact us

If you email the press, we receive your email address, any name or organisation you provide, and the contents of your message and attachments. We use this information to respond and to keep relevant publishing correspondence.

Please include only the information needed for your enquiry. The publisher’s mailbox is for book and business enquiries; please do not send medical records.

Why we use this information

Our usual lawful basis is legitimate interests: answering enquiries and managing the work of the press. If an enquiry leads to an agreement, relevant information may be needed to take steps you request before that agreement, to fulfil it, or to meet a legal obligation.

New-release emails

If you send a subscription request, we use your email address to send occasional Lantern Room Press book announcements and release news. The lawful basis is your consent. Subscribing is optional and is separate from making an enquiry or agreeing to website terms.

We keep the request, its date and the consent wording as evidence of your choice. We do not use subscriptions to infer a diagnosis or health history. Your address is not displayed to other subscribers, sold or passed to another publisher for their marketing.

You can withdraw consent at any time by replying “unsubscribe” to a release email or sending an unsubscribe request. Withdrawal does not affect lawful processing before you withdrew. We remove opted-out addresses before further release emails are sent.

Website visits & cookies

Our website code does not include advertising, analytics scripts, social-media embeds or externally loaded fonts, and does not set cookies or use local storage to track you. Subscriptions are requested through your own email service. See our cookie and website-storage information.

Services that deliver and secure the site may process technical information, such as an IP address, browser details, requested pages and the time of a request. Necessary security technology may be used to protect the service.

Services that handle information

Email is provided by IONOS. The website is hosted through OpenAI Sites, with Cloudflare infrastructure. These providers process information needed to deliver and protect their services.

Relevant correspondence may also be shared with a professional adviser or another party where necessary to deal with your request, manage an agreement, or meet a legal obligation. We do not sell enquiry or subscriber information. A general enquiry does not subscribe you to marketing emails.

Our hosting providers operate internationally, including in the United States and Europe. OpenAI describes transfers using adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses with the UK transfer addendum; Cloudflare describes reliance on the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework for UK-to-US transfers. These providers explain their processing and how to obtain safeguard information in their OpenAI and Cloudflare privacy policies. IONOS provides its privacy information here. Contact us if you need information about the arrangements relevant to your correspondence.

Retailer links

When retailer links are available, choosing one takes you to that retailer’s website. It handles checkout, payment, delivery, returns and its own privacy choices. We do not receive your payment details through this website. We do not add affiliate identifiers or tracking parameters to retailer links.

How long information is kept

Routine correspondence is kept for as long as needed to deal with the enquiry and any related follow-up. Messages that record rights, permissions, agreements or legal obligations may need to be kept for longer. The nature of the record and the relevant obligation determine that period.

We keep your subscription details while you remain subscribed. After an opt-out, we keep only the information needed to respect it and demonstrate the relevant consent history, rather than continuing to use it for marketing. A minimal suppression record is retained while the release mailing list operates, unless you later make a clear new subscription request. We rely on legitimate interests for keeping that suppression record: respecting your choice and preventing unwanted messages.

We do not use subscription or enquiry information for solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you can ask to access, correct, erase or restrict the use of your personal information, or object to its use. Data portability may apply to information processed automatically on the basis of consent or a contract. If we rely on consent for a particular use, you can withdraw it.

To make a request, email hello@lanternroompress.com. We may need enough information to verify your identity and locate the relevant correspondence.

Concerns & complaints

Please contact us if you are concerned about how your information has been used. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK data protection regulator.
